Cold weather forced the cancellation of the race which I anticipated doing on Saturday. I know, I know: canceling a ski race due to cold weather? Yeah. It even happens to the pros.
But I partly made up for this gap in my last week of preparation for next Sunday’s City of Lakes Loppet by skiing a nice out-and-back loop in the Lower Arb. The conditions were great, and I had a ridiculous amount of fun, but the best part of it was how great the Arb looks on a sunny winter day.

Must be kind of tough to skate on those trails, they look pretty narrow and rough to me. Do you just DP?
Yes, I just DP in this section of the Arb, where they only lay classic tracks. The other half of the Arb does have wider, groomed trails with classic and skate tracks. It’s not quite as picturesque.
‘Me too’ on the lack of skate lanes. And, I wondered who in the heck chose to stomp all over those trails! Glad to hear you have other options for skating.
And, hometown names or not, love the ‘aviators’ (sneer marks intended).
As new signs point out, the Arb trails are “multi-use,” so walkers and snowshoers take full advantage of the grooming to pursue their chosen activities. Really, it’s not bad at all; they know not to squash the classic tracks themselves. On the other hand, some trail users are less than scrupulous about cleaning up after their dogs. Swix Brown!
I’ve got something similar to that on the tail of one of my beater classic skis after a romp in the woods last weekend…its totally frozen solid to my ski I can’t get it off even now.
