Arty-Art

This afternoon I took in Carleton's senior art show, which is on display in the college art gallery, in the basement of the concert hall, and Boliou Hall, the art department's building. The stuff in the gallery was especially enjoyable, with some really impressive work: Carrie DeBacker's dizzyingly detailed large-format drawings

Carrie1

Kelsey Marks' hilariously superfluous "food accessories" like toothpick holders and knife rests, Rafael Estrella's subtle tile paintings, Julia Felix's giant penny sculptureElizabeth Graff's minutely detailed word-drawings, and by Mimi Rojanasakul's meticulous map drawings on Mylar (sadly, not included in the show website).

If you're in Northfield, you oughta go - the gallery is open every day after noon (and the corridors in Boliou are open pretty much all the time). If I can, I'm going to try to take the girls: since they saw the faux corpses at the Lutheran school, they'll think this one is practically blase.

(The image above appears on DeBacker's page of the senior show website.)

Forecast: Significant blowing and drifting, with the possibility of heavy accumulation in rural areas.
