Never mind the endowment’s slow growth, delayed building maintenance, the lack of pay raises last year, or helicopter parents: the real threat to campus is beavers. It looks like a beaver (or three) took care of a tree that had already been neatly trimmed with a chainsaw.

The beavers did a huge amount of damage to our area (Prairie/Jefferson Parkway intersection) in 2008. One poor guy lost most of the trees in his backyard. Last summer, nothing — they disappeared. Today while walking around the ponds I saw a critter that looked suspiciously beaver-like in shape. A little small, but chunky like a beaver.
Oh-oh.
