Ss Words

All day long, Shannon worked with Genevieve on S sounds, which Vivi tends, endearingly, to pronounce as Rs, Ds, or even more complicated WR sounds: “Yook! I dee deven birds in the rye!” So all evening long, Vivi has been sssssshowing off her new enunciation: “Sssssnake! Ssssspaghetti! Sssssplash! Sssssilly! Sssssix! Ssssseven! Ssssshark! Sssssea! Cinderella! Cereal!”

After her bath, Vivi climbed onto the toilet and announced, proudly, “I yust tot of sssomething that ssstarts wif S dat you do on da potty!” My mind raced and crashed into the the four-letter S-word that rhymes with “snit.” Oh, no, I thought. She doesn’t know that word, does she? Grinning, she shouted, “You sssssswipe your bottom!”

Whew.
