Saturday’s Media Consumption

November 16th, 2008 · 6 Comments

As an experiment, I tracked all the “major” media that I consumed on Saturday between, roughly, 8 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. I might repeat this during the workweek. The items below – which don’t include the myriad trawlings of Facebook, Twitter, or my own blog, are presented in the order I consumed them:

(Men’s marathon record holder Haile Gebreselassie on his first marathon, at age 16)

(Old woman doing “Rapper’s Delight” from Adam Sandler’s movie The Wedding Singer)

Sigur Ros fan? I missed an opportunity to see them this summer at Bonnaroo…I heard they were spectacular. If only school let me use piracy…oh well.

Stealing is wrong, young man. Having internet friends send you a copy of the new album is just being nice, though.

I despise Sigur Ros, but J loves them. He’s getting this CD for his birthday.

Major media? Not smaller blogs? What about medium-sized blogs? I’m really wondering, because on the days after chemo when I’m in bed, I read online, pretty much all day. I might break for an online TV show. But, I read a lot of local and smaller blogs in addition to longer articles and major media stuff.

Would you really do such a thing? Just for me?

Q: What’s a “smaller” or “medium-sized” blog? I find that my blog reading is higher during the week as I follow links from one story to another, or have time to check my Reader listings. On the weekends, I just don’t have the time, or the need. (Much of my workday is spent chasing information around the internet, which is very conducive to lots of blog reading – from big news blogs all the way down to friends’ blogs.)

I guess with size I am referring to readership. I was just trying to see if I’m the only nerd on the planet that seems to spend lots of time chasing links and Reader listings.
